Jon wanted to propose to his lady on the bow of the RA sailing on Miami's Biscayne Bay. I invited my very special friend Dr Eva Ritvo to come aboard to cheer for the couple and document the event. Eva was having great time taking pictures of the couple. It was wonderful to see such happy couple starting a new phase of life aboard.
Here is what they wrote in the log"

"Today captain Asaad took my girl friend and I on a sunset sail out on Miami's Biscayne Bay. I planned on proposing as soon as the sun sets. I was able to hold out for one hour, but the wind had caught the jib , the waves made a perfect fluttering sound and two dolphins swam next to the boat. I knew that was the right time, so I asked Farrah to marry me. Lucky for me, she said YES ! . Thank you Captain Asaad for a perfect day and helping to share my love to sailing with my new love of my life, Jon Thompson"

He came from Montreal Canada and she came from Colorado to enjoy Miami's warm weather. Well they picked a cold front. They were really good sports and did not allow what we Floridians call cold weather dampen their enthusiasm for a sunrise Cruise. It was windy. I knew Max was a seasoned sailor, so I had the main, mizzen and stay sail up, with up to 30 knots of wind It was more that what was comfortable for Emily. so we dropped the main and still had a good steady 5 knots of speed.

They came all the way from hongkong to enjoy a day sail on the calm waters of Miami's Biscayne bay. the weather was fantastic.. Warm sunny day with gentle breeze and calm waters. It does not get any better than that.
they sat on the bow taking it all in. They really got excited to watch the Dolphins playin in the surf.

It was a chilly day for me, but the Trevinos did not think so. They are from Chicago, the windy city. They enjoyed every minue of it. They came all the way to enjoy a day sail in Miami's Biscayne bay.

He invited her parents to come to the ocasion. As expected she said yes. Here is what Sean wrote in the log:

It was her birthday and he wanted to propose to her on he special day, he also knew she loves to be on the water. So he decided to charter the RA for a sunset cruise on our great Biscayne bay. Mother nature could not have been more cooperative, beautiful gentle breeze and a nice sunset to top the day off. Of course she said yes as all the other proposals performed on the bow of the RA. I am now guaranteeing the outcome of all proposals on y ship.

Cecy'a frinds were here from Chigago. What a fun bunch. On board also was the lone member of the Miami Boating Club, Alina.
It was wendy, few drizzels that did not amount to much. We sailed to key Biscayne and watched the sun set, which was obstructed by the clouds, but it is always beautiful. Here is what they wrote in the log:

Andrew's family were visiting Miami from Michigan, and he wanted to treat them to a sailing trip on Biscayne Bay.I also invited Betty Gradera , director of Camcol, and Eli, my class mate in Spanish and his lady Paola.
It was the first time for Paola to be on a sail boat, so I told her as far as sailing you are a virgin.
It was really a very windy day, 25 knots from the North. RA was making over 5 knots with the Mizzen and staysail. They all thought it was great. and indeed it was wonderful sailing conditions. here is what they wrote in the log:

It was a beautiful windy sunny day, could not have asked for a better day to sail or race on biscayne bay. 9 sailing vessels with the high powerd execs of Tag Huer came for a team builging reagatta on Miami's great Biscayne bay. The bay really lived up to it's name as the best pplace to sail in the world. at least on that day it was..

This charming youg couple wanted to celebrate their 5th wedding Anniversary. They have not lived in our great city of Miami for a long time. they just came from New Jersey. So Sailing on Biscayne bay seemed like a wonderful way to celebrate the occasion. The weather did cooperat and we had a great sail and a wonderful sunset. My friend Charlie was abaord to help run the ship. This time we raised the big Jib amd the Mizzen. The sail was exhilirating and smooth. Here is what they wrote in the log:

Jo and his wife Ann were here to visit their Daughter Alyssa who brought her friend Kateva. they usually do something special with her when they come to Miami. So they decided to go for a sail on our great Biscayne Bay. It was indeed a great day to sail..Jo was a sailor himself, who sailed out of Boston on His Catalina. Tony wanted to do go sailing on Biscayne bay for a long time. He and his wife knew me thru Coral Gables chamber of commerce and other events. Thor invited Patty, and her son Chris and Peter, her Rotary exchange student from Norway to enjoy a day sailing on our great sailing waters of Miami's Biscayne bay. Originally he was planning to take them on one of Shake a Leg Miami small boats. But at the last minute he found out that Shake a Leg was not open for business on that day because of the labor day holiday. He called me to save the day and I sprung into action, and got RA ready to receive them. The weather could not have been any better. Chris and Peter were great crew and the experience was enjoyed by all. Here is what they wrote in the log:

Ceci had her friends Trudy Hoffer and David Berky who came all the way from Illinois to enjoy Miami's sunshine ans sailing on Biscayne Bay. Ceci was able to arrange fo beautiful sailing conditions. Being the VP for the Miami Beach Chamber of commerce, somehow she used her powers to order a chamber of Commerce weather. Needles to say we had a spectacular few hours of sailing. It was Eric's Birthday. Eric is now interested in sailing, taking sailing lessons and joining Coconut Grove sailing club. So Heather his significant other decided to give him a day of sailing aboard the RA on our beautiful Miami's Biscayne Biscayne Bay, they even decided to help me bring the boat from Consolodated Marin on the Miami River, to have a full flavour of the river and the bridges . We did indeed have some exciting moments coming under the bridges, particularly the 17th avenue Bridge. The sailing had all possible conditions sampled for Eric, the gamut. Good wind for great sailing, total duldurum for great swimming and serous rain and strorm in the mix.The greoup were great and really appreciated the experience. I had Mark Muler as a crew. he was helpful getting the boat out of the shelter on the river and manageing the sails. Here is what Heather and Eric wrote in the log:

Hello Sailors!

I was lucky enough to be invited to sail with you both this past Saturday with Alaina Fotiu-Wojtowicz and her family… what a wonderful day. It’s a beautiful boat, the weather was perfect, and the company delightful.

It was an interesting day weather wise. My best judgement was that we could get away with it, and we did. But I was concerned because some times I am wrong. But I am glad I was right this time. It really was a nice sail, gentle breeze and serious ove cast and a lot of noise far away.
Here is what Gary wrote;

The adults were unenthusiastic about sailing due to thunderstorms and high winds around Palmetto Bay, but Jon’s movers were not discouraged. We had an overcast sky which is great on an August afternoon in Miami. The sunset was invisible due to the extensive cloud cover but we saw some great sky color. A full moon made a brief appearance about 45 minutes after the scheduled moon rise. There were spectacular displays of lightning a safe distance to the northwest.

They came from all the corners of the us to be together for the bachelorette party.They were originally scheduled for the 6th, but the weather man was predicting 80% chance of rain due to the remnents of tropical storm Emily. So we opted for a sunset/night sale on friday the 5th instead. It was a good move. they got to enjoy some rays, a nice sunset and witness Miami by the nigh with its gorgeous sky line,,here is what Jackie wrote in the log:

Erick the owner of the Angler Hotel on the beach, wanted to have a special treat for his inlaws who were visiting Miami . so he chartered the RA for a sunset cruise. It was a great day for sailing al we all had a great time sailing on Biscayne Bay. Here is what eric wrote in the log:

The first sunset without rain in weeks and no mosquitos that alone would make me happy this time of year.

We had an excellent crew. My associate from Dale Carnegie Clarisa and he friend Maribel (her first sail) made the most of this afternoon. Jon brought his roommates Jeremy and Tim. Representing the UM Ratskeller was Katie. Carolyn came along with her friend and coworker Martia another first time sailor.

The sky was overcast but that was fine it kept the July Miami sun off of us.

Dawn booked that day almost 4 months ago for her lady friends from Ohio. This is a special girls weekend in our fair City, Miami by the bay. On board were, Dawn, Charlene, Shanon,Tia and Rene. Of course the best part of their visit was to sail on our great Biscayne Bay. According to the weather man, it was going to be a tropical wave , with the rain and wind etc. Dawn called me the day before to cancel. It was really a heart breaker to scrub the best part of their trip. Well the man was wrong again, it ended up a great day for sailing, so we did have a great sail, under full sail. It could not have been better conditions, 10-15 knots of wind, partly cloudy and the sun peeking out one in a whilw, not a single drop of rain. . Needless to say the ladies had a great time.Here is what dawn wrote :

Todd booked me thru Groupon, he came with his wife and friends to enjoy a sail on Miami's Biscayne Bay. No body have experienced sailing except for Larry, whose experience left a lot to be desired. Thanks to the weather, we did have a great day. It started a little too slow, 4-5 knots of wind, but as the day progressed the wind did pick up. Todd enjoyed the experience and actually booked me for another charter in September.

Right after they closed on their new home, it was time to experience the great sport of sailing on Biscayne Bay. It was a great day for sailing, joing us was Daniella Moor as a hostess. Jorge and his son Jorge Jr. were very interested in learning about sailing, they participated in the running of the ship, asked questions, even requested to have a session on the points of sails and illutrations etc. They were very impressed by how sailing and harnesing the wind and tacking, and Jibing works.

These six beautiful you men and women came from all over to be together aboard the RA .They arrived about 4 pm for a sunset cruise. As they boarded there was a squall brewing. I had to struggle with the decision whether to scrub the event which I know will disappoint them, or to go for it. They all did not seem to have any reservations about going for it .So we did. It was an adventure just leaving the dock with 30 knots of wind on the beam, thanks for the strong hands and great help of my capable crew, Krill and all my guests, which I realized later on that they were Marines. so for them that was just the adventure fit for them. I knew the squal will subside and there will be great sailing and a spectacular sunset which actually happened. Here is what Sylvia and Bryan wrote in the log:

He invited her from Chcago for a visit. She had no idea what he was up to.
it was a total surprise for her when he poped the questin on the forward deck. I assured him that I had so many before him do the same and RA had 100% suceess. The day started with 15 knots of wind, and on the way back the wind died, so I was under full sail.
Well, he later told me that my record is still intact, there were cries of happiness and phone calls to friends and family about th great surprise. Here is what Khalil wrote in the log:

Marie wanted to share her birthday with her special friends, so she invted them to go sailing on our great, Miami's Biscayne bay. It was a very windy day, steady 20-25 knots. I first raised the main, mizzen and staysayl, and sailed out of the chanel, but that was too much canvas. Michelle who never been on a sail boat before was uncomfortable with the boat's excessive heel, so as soon s we cleared the channel I reefed the main . They really wanted to swim in spite of the heavy wind, so I took them in the lee of Biscayne bay dropped the sails and they went in the water. They all had a great time. krill was on board as a crew. kelly who's dad was a sailor was specially appreciative of the experience. here is what kelly wrote in the log:

It was just a great day for sailing. I also had a young Canadian first mate , Sunita Bhatia who happened to be in town. that made them feel more at ease.

It was indeed a beautiful day, gentle breez. I had all the sailes up. the ladies had the bathing suits on and enjoyed saoking in the sun on the bow. Here is what they wrote in the log:

My friend Dr. Senk had guests from out of town. He usually likes to treat his friends to a sunset cruise aboard the RA on our great Miami's Biscayne Bay. I went ahead and Invited Leslie Martinez of the Raleigh Hotel and her friend Meaghan of the Gansvort Hotel. I also happen to have a couch surfer in town, Samantha,she walked 5 miles from down town Miami to join us. Every body had a great time. Here is what they wrote in the ship's log:

Daniel wanted to give his lovely wife Alejandra a very special birthday present. a day that she will remember for a very long time. He chartered The Ra for a Full day of sailing not only on our great Biscayne Bay, but also on the deep blue waters of the open sea. The day was ideal for Daniel's adventure. We set sail about 11 am, crossed the bay and into the open water. The weather could not have been any better. Daniel and Alejandra and first mate Eduardo all had a great time. Needless to say I had a great time too. It was a along day but a great day for all.

On the way back I decided to give them a smoother ride so I dropped the main.

Isis had her friends, the Tedescos here from Canada. The children have never been on a boat before. they seem to have really enjoyed themselves. Titust had a great time running the ship with the consistent heavy wind.

Steve wanted to make sure that there will be enough wind to sail. He told Lorna, the Concierge at the Tempo Hotel. I don't want a boat Ride, I want to go sailing. I assured Lorna that the weather man is predicting 10-20 knots. So Steve came with his wife and a friend and we did have a nice sail. We started with the main, Mizzen and stay sail, then later on the way back we raised the Yankee. Steve was on the helm all the time. Bill richards brought his beautiful wife Caroline and his daughter Syndy and his son William to spend a day on our beautiful Biscayne ay. David Senk was here from California. He always likes to enjoy a day on our great waters of Miami's Biscayne Bay.

Clay and Family has the tradition of going for an adventure with his family at the time of graduation. this is like a rite of passage for each of his children.
